This night was so amazing! It was a first time for me attending LAFW as part of the working staff. I sat front row at the Malan Breton show, and can I just say- AMAZING?! It reminded me of purgatory. Limbo. Ghosts from the 20th century & WWII era in the most glamorous manner. It was haunting, beautiful, and every single design that came out, I was absolutely in love with. The music was very ominous and dark, and set the tone for the eclectic collection as the models walked down the long, white, spacious runway. That fur jacket though, won my heart. So amazing and gaudy. I drove from San Diego to LA at 6 in the morning to attend this event and drove back the same night, then drove back AGAIN from San Diego the next day (in rush hour, what usually would take me 2 hours took me 4) to go to the same venue for another event, and drove back the same night, from LA, again. Needless to say I am utterly EXHAUSTED from all the driving, traffic, people, networking, loud music, hardly eating, working, and trying to launch my new clothing brand at the same time (YES ITS HAPPENING Y'ALL. Read bottom of post for more info). I'm surprised I survived the week. But here I am! I'm alive! And well enough to tell you that Malan Breton is one of my new favorite designers, hands down. Great job to Malan and his team. Such a well executed show! Can't wait to see more.
As for the lovely ladies at the end of my post, Meredith O'Connor and Heather LaRose are both young and upcoming pop vocalists who performed in day 2 of LAFW (pictures below) kickoff at the Pacific Design Center! Meredith O'Connor is a 19 year old anti bullying activist and has a very bright future ahead of her. One of the most down to Earth females I've ever met and extremely caring, sweet, and generous. Heather is Meredith's very close friend and a singer as well who opened for Hillary Clinton during her campaigns, and her songs have also been featured on the hit TV show "Teen Wolf". While spending two days with these girls, they impressed me beyond measure with their upbeat attitudes, carefree energy and positive vibes. For example, Heather and I headed into a Rite Aid and there was a homeless man outside panhandling. We had no cash, but Heather took it upon herself to offer to get him anything he wanted in Rite Aid instead, and he asked for a Coke. She not only gave him a Coke, but also delivered some useful information to him on where in the city he could find refuge and free food. He was so happy. I don't think the sound of a Coke hissing from being opened for the first time ever made me want to cry of love and happiness ever before in my life. It was powerful, and showed true character. Even if it was just getting a Coke for a homeless man, she didn't have to do that and yet she did and then some. I will be working with these two much more in the future and can't wait to see what we create!
Commateo was a stunning show as well! With sheer pieces, business style pieces, and many diverse models showcasing their work. It was fun, carefree, and super good vibes. Then there was Shahida Parides. And it was a RAINBOW of a collection, let me tell ya. So many ethnic frequencies just bursting out from these models and the fabrics that were used were just breathtaking. They flowed like water as they strutted down the runway. It was amazing and full of life. I loved it!
