To a lot of people it's mystery as to how to how they're going to get themselves up in the morning and have a productive, high energy, and well put together day. To feel accomplished at the end of every day is something people think is a fantasy. An unattainable goal. What if I told you it was easier than you thought and it IS possible? Would you believe me? Or give me an excuse and tell me you've tried everything and nothing has worked?
Well, first things first and possibly the toughest out of each step, is your mentality. Your state of mind. Without this being acknowledged and shifted in the right direction, everything else in this post is going to be irrelevant to you. I've always said, "Paradise is a mindset." And its never been more true than now I'm an adult that lives and works from the same place all day. Home. A lot of people think I'm lucky to work from home and have it easy, but its very hard. I have to make my own hours. And the temptation of sleeping in because I have no boss to fire me if I don't come in at exactly 9 A.M. is there EVERY morning. I have to constantly create my own jobs. I don't have a pipeline of calls to make or a set schedule of tasks that someone else gives me every day. I do different things every single day. I create content, create my own sales funnel, manage my website, write blogs and guest posts, reach out to NUMEROUS companies at a chance to collaborate and for every 100 emails I send, only 5-10 will contact me back with good news. I am also my own project manager, marketing director, manufacturer, photographer, social media expert and more. This is a LOT to take on and can sometimes (aka all the time. Don't let me fool you) it can be overwhelming and burn me out. So I've created a system that for me, the most ADHD, OCD, lazy, procrastinating human in the world, it works. Somehow, some way. And I want to share it with you. But I wanted to get clear that the biggest thing I have to face on a day to day basis is my mind. When you learn to watch and control your mind instead of your mind watching and controlling you, many amazing and great things will start to happen on many different levels. So, how do you change your mentality? Well, keep on reading! You're already half way there just by being interested in a post on how to make your days better.
1. EAT A CLEAN BREAKFAST
I know theres a huge amount of people (me being one of them) that don't like eating breakfast. I have an issue that I've dealt with since I was really young called "Morning Anxiety" where I have severe anxiety of what my day has in store whether it be good or bad. It doesn't really matter. And I carry all my stress in my stomach, which makes me feel very sick in the mornings and I choose not to eat anything until I feel okay enough to do so. And this has had a huge impact on my life since I could remember. I always felt groggy, tired, burnt out, dreading to go anywhere (other than back to bed), the whole bit. So instead of eating solids, I make smoothies. I DRINK my breakfast. Its so delicate and easy on my stomach, it processes into my body easier, and it gives me energy faster. Plus, depending on what I put in my smoothie it could have different effects. Like protein, chia, minerals, amino acids, greens, citrus, you name it you can make it happen and tend to what you feel that you need that day.
Its very important that you realize how crucial it is that you need to feed your body in the morning. For your health and your mental state. It helps improve your memory, boosts your mood, and improves your chances of being able to concentrate and focus on your tasks at hand. If you don't want to eat RIGHT when you get up at least (regardless) you should be drinking a tall glass of water to jump start your organs and flush you out. It gives you energy and will keep your body regular.
Now, I know what you're thinking. You're like, "I don't meditate." "Never have, don't think I ever will." "Next suggestion, please." "I don't even know how to meditate." "Where do they do that at?" "That shit actually works?" "Meditation is for hippies."
Well. You're not wrong for thinking any of those things, among other things that might be going through your head. BUT- if you've never tried it before or if you were never taught the right way to do it, how do you know that it won't have insanely good benefits to you and your wellbeing? People fear the unknown. And that's ok. It's natural to resist or run away from an unknown situation. But sometimes you have to fight yourself and resist your natural urge to "settle" and be comfortable with what you know. So this is in the same league as setting up your mental state. How do you do this? Ill tell you.
- Write down what you want to accomplish in your day. Just a couple of non materialistic, non chore-like, non work related tasks. Even if it sounds crazy. If you've seen someone else do it, its possible. So start with inspirational ideas first before inventional ideas. Put pen to paper, and make a list.
- Do some research on YouTube videos that are GUIDED meditations. Also, there are apps that you can pay $2 for and receive 5 minute to 1 hour guided meditations any time you want. You'll know which ones resonate the most with you and favorite them so you know where to find them when you want to meditate without hesitation.
- MAKE THE TIME. Even if its 5 minutes, its better than nothing. Then obviously increase your time throughout weeks and months of your practice.
- And while you set up for your first meditation, make sure to focus, visualize, and set your intention for your day during your mediation to be nothing but positive thoughts and the manifestation of what it is that you wrote down for your day. Clear the mind, and then align it to be set up for success throughout the remainder of your morning leading into the night.
Meditation helps increase creativity, decreases stress levels, and enhance critical thinking, high performance mentality, and productivity. Make this apart of your daily routine and you just could be the next Oprah. I mean, she meditates EVERY single day. Y'all have the same 24 hours in a day as she does! Make it happen. I promise it will help.
I can't tell you how important it is for you to get your body moving. The act of exercising can increase your happiness, productivity, mental clarity, even your life expectancy. Its known that if you have anxiety, its near to impossible for a person to experience anxiety after just 15 minutes of exercise. It releases all kinds of happy cells into your body! It also creates the desired mindset of getting your priorities in check. Helping aid in the help of being organized and prioritized. Not saying if you exercise your life will all of a sudden be put together, just saying it will put your mind in the right direction of having that kind of life.
So if you're not a "gym" type of person, try yoga. Its slower and less intensity, its alignment based so you're less likely to injure yourself, and no one is actually caring about what you're doing other than the instructor. Most people fear of being the center of attention in the gym (which yes, I can vouch that every time I go to an open gym I feel like fresh meat. Not fun.) and more so a yoga class. That's not the case. FUN FACT: I am a certified Babtiste Power Vinyasa Yoga instructor and have a pretty deep past with yoga. It was a huge fear of mine when I first started that people would judge me because I didn't know what I was doing. Then after biting the bullet and quit making excuses, I went to a few classes and realized no one gave a shit about me other than the teacher when I needed her help. She corrected me when I needed it and it was so empowering. Such a magical, spiritual and physically challenging experience. I fell in love ever since. But in the most exhilarating way ever. I got in great shape, and mediation is apart of it all as well! So if you want to hit "two yogis with one mat", thats the way to do it. (Pa-dam-TISH)
Either way you do it, I don't care, just get that ass UP and MOVING. However that looks for you, just do it. Thank me later. Summer comes quick these days.
4. A WRITTEN PLANNER
It's a lost art to actually write with a pen on paper. I know. But there's a reason a lot of successful people still remember what hand they write with guys! That's because writing things down has a different affect on you than typing does. When you write things down, it's slower, and you make it a point to write out the entire sentence word by word, letter by letter. You remember it more in depth and you're able to collect your thoughts in a more organized and calm manner. Which helps you prioritize the most important things in your day in detail. Plus, it'll be right in front of you all day if you have a desk, or a bag you can carry your planner in. When it's in a phone app, you just turn off your app and it goes away. And we become accustomed to hitting the "OK" button when alerts pop up on our phone unless it's a comment on Instagram or a text from bae. So how can you possibly be productive when you have a mental note of things but it's sort of just in this thought cloud and not on paper in front of you for you to check off throughout your day? Plus, the feeling of seeing an entire list checked off at the end of the day has a high of it's own. It feels so empowering and like you really have your shit together. It's amazing. We grow up so fast.
5. GET TO SLEEP AT A DECENT TIME
This is hard for someone like me who doesn't have a schedule that I necessarily NEED to adhere to. But it's important I follow this as tightly as I can because this is what will happen. I wake up early, get everything I need to get done, exercise, feel amazing, eat healthy, and then I get invited to a party. I stay out late, eat shitty food, and am tired as FUCK, and then end up waking up super late the next morning feeling groggy, unmotivated, and like I just cheated on an imaginary boyfriend. Boyfriend: meaning my diet and schedule. So then you have to either feel like you're dying and FORCE yourself to wake up early in the morning so you get to bed on time that night, or you wake up late, and then stay up late AGAIN because your sleeping schedule has been thrown off. Lose/Lose situation. So, now lets just say its not because I went out but Netflix decided to call and talk for hours. And hours... Being productive is a mixture of discipline, organization, and prioritizing. So start this new way of life by getting to bed on time, getting 6-8 hours of sleep at least every night, and waking up at a decent time to make the most out of your day.
6. CLEANING UP REGARDLESS IF ITS SPRING
Some people will literally only clean their house because "Spring Cleaning" is a thing. Yeah. Stop that. Right now. You're an adult. And if you're reading this, you obviously need some tips. And if there's ANYTHING that I can tell you that needs to happen for you to feel good, have the right mentality to conquer the day, feel good at night, and even better in the morning, is to CLEAN YOUR GOSH DARN HOUSE. And clean as you go when you start to make a little mess here and there. There have been studies made that proved the differences between one group of subjects that didn't clean and those that did. The results were DRAMATICALLY different. The group with the less fortunate habits of not being clean had tendencies of being depressed, lonely, unmotivated, couldn't focus at home or at work, slept more but didn't have good sleep necessarily, and more just dreadful results that were complete polar opposites to those who were clean and well put together. The cleaner of the two were focused, woke up happier, had better eating habits, were more social, worked out more, made stronger and more meaningful relationships with people because they were confident inviting people to their home and entertaining them, and of course those people on a first impression basis are going to like them more by their living conditions simply being clean and tidy. Not to mention, cleaner people are able to keep intimate relationships longer and are happier in them. So, id say, either hire a maid if you don't want to do it yourself, or figure out a way to make your living conditions work with you and your needs. But make sure you clean your act up and your mess!
Also, make sure to buy one of my candles by clicking here for the cherry on top of your clean ass home. Just saying. :)
BONUS TASK: MAKING YOURSELF ACCOUNTABLE BY TELLING SOMEONE OR POSTING IT ONLINE
Have a really important task that you need to do but can't seem to hang on to the responsibility to do it? TELL SOMEONE YOU'RE GONNA DO IT. Ask for someones help to hold you accountable if you don't do it. Or- post it in a blog, twitter, IG, snapchat post or whatever way you'd like on social media so you have to write a follow up message telling everyone how good your day was and that you DID this specific task. This is how I do it anyway. I usually go with the more private way of telling one person I talk to all the time or frequently and we talk about what we're gonna do all day, I will name a couple important things that MUST get done, and Ill have to do it. Because no one wants to look stupid. It's a good lesson to be learned thats for sure!
So, there you go! I hope you can find some inspiration and guidance in this post to help you get your days a bit more productive. Just remember that being productive IS WORK. And first you have to change your mindset by shifting it into the right gear. And if you follow these steps, it'll become a normal way of life for you to wake up early, eat a lovely breakfast, meditate & exercise, plan your day in your journal, and execute each task every day like a fucking BOSS, and then relax and regroup in your clean and cozy home that smells like a French Vanilla Chey Mina Brand Candle.
I have faith in you <3 Love you guys! Cheers to being productive and taking on 2017 by the balls.
